So it’s not really something new at ChronicBabe.com, but it’s something new for a huge community: the 2009 Diabetes Mine Design Challenge. Innovative design concepts (devices or web applications) that will improve life with diabetes will be honored, with a Grand Prize of $10,000 for the winner. This is a great chance to get creative and help people, Babes, so spread the word!

Oh, if only there were high-tech cold remedies…the kind that eliminated sinus infections and asthma symptoms and stuffy noses with just the push of a button. Alas, we haven’t found any yet. So Editrix Jenni has been subsisting on a diet of hot tea, chicken soup, cough drops—and lots of naps. She has also become a big fan of the very low-tech NeilMed’s Sinus Rinse, which feels less like drowning than you might think.

What we're up to lately...

Holed up sick for a few days, Editrix Jenni used lots of technology to take care of herself. Twitter supplied daily inspiration from fellow sick chicks; the ChronicBabe Facebook page introduced her to some new pals; Google Reader fed her news from fellow health bloggers; email contact with her doc confirmed appointments (ask—your doc may use email too!); and a digital watch (nerdly!) reminded her to take medicine on schedule. Finally, her HDTV (ancient tech, in comparison) fed her a stream of chick flicks. Good medicine!

Fill your ears (and mind, and heart, and soul) with Buddhist master Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings on living a life of mindfulness. One of Editrix Jenni’s fave resources, by far.

TAKE ACTION!

Go relatively low-tech: set a daily reminder on your cell phone for taking meds. This is especially helpful for those mid-day meds that you don’t necessarily associate with meals or bedtime. (And carry a cute pillbox!)

Download the latest user-tested apps for your iPhone from this list of top healthcare and fitness programs. There are so many to choose from; check out reviews to get the most bang for your buck.

Stay warm with our favorite low-tech sick chick tool: the Slanket. It’s the original! Yes, it costs more than its competitor, but it’s way higher in quality and the creators donate a portion of their proceeds to the National Resources Defense Council.
