It’s winter, and some of us have the blahs

The Editrix

Seasonal affective disorder. Another day of shoveling. Crusts of salt and ice on our cars. Gray skies and early sunsets. For ChronicBabes, winter can be especially hard. That’s why we need a pick-me-up! We’ve got a bunch of fun things in this issue guaranteed to get your blood pumping and your heart bursting with happiness. And we always love to hear your suggestions!

New today at ChronicBabe.com:
The Wellsphere Debacle, and Grand Rounds

Bloodpressure175

Last week was hoppin’ at ChronicBabe HQ, where Editrix Jenni collected 35 different blog posts for a totally babelicious Grand Rounds, “the best of the weekly medical blogosphere.” Plus: the sale of Wellsphere to HealthCentral caused a ruckus among health bloggers and we just had to weigh in. Whew! That should keep you busy.

What's on our plate?

Womenfight175

Speaking gigs! Editrix Jenni is speaking this weekend to the Lupus Foundation of Illinois at an event designed around Empowering Lupus Patients. She’ll be talking about “Overcoming Self-Defeating Behaviors When You’re Chronically Ill,” an encore of the presentation she gave at last year’s Invisible Illness Awareness Week . If you can’t make it to Chicago, listen to it here now!

Did you know?

BlogHer is one of those projects that just keeps getting better. They welcome thousands of women, who share their personal stories and inspire each other every day. You can join now for free, and share your own journey in their “health and wellness” section!

What we're up to lately...

Listening to new music from the likes of Andrew Bird, Thievery Corporation and Dan Wilson (we’re currently crushing on geeky musicians here at ChronicBabe HQ!)…trying out “You’re Bluffing” by Benefit Cosmetics to cover up rosacea-related redness (it works great!) …wrapping up therapy on the broken wrist (woo hoo!)…planning a trip to SXSW Interactive in Austin (we’re craving warm weather)…and loving connecting with all our fellow ChronicBabes on Twitter and Facebook.

Fab five: sites we love right now

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories
Take ordinary items and turn them into totally awesome stuff. Make your own valentine heart cookies! A unicorn with glow-y eyes! New projects every Wednesday.

Pugly Feet
In which a true Babe shows us in gorgeous photos, every day, how fabulous her feet can look in truly comfortable shoes. We’re in love!

Awaken Your Fearless Self
Diana Bertoldo of Live Beyond Stress and Illness takes you on a meditation journey that helps you explore your fears and learn to stand up to them. What’s not to like?

Jonathan Coulton
This geek-turned-musician (OK, he’s STILL a geek) has stolen our hearts. We particularly luv “That Spells DNA” on the Our Bodies, Ourselves, Our Cybernetic Arms album.

ChronicBabe Blog Carnival
Know what a Blog Carnival is? Would you like to read one that’s all about the ladies? Or submit your own blog entries to be seen by hundreds? Take our 5-minute survey and tell us. Thanks!

TAKE ACTION!

Show everyone you’re a Bird Brain! We dig anatomical art and fashion, so every time Threadless releases a new t-shirt we get all giggly. We’re digging Erin Jessica King’s new design, which is like wearable educational art.

Are you a patient…or a health care consumer? No need to decide—but it’s something to consider. Amy Tenderich at Diabetes Mine explores the distinction and offers her opinions, plus links to other folks’ ideas.

Stop hoarding! For some, it’s more than a frustration—it’s a compulsion, a disease that takes over. Learn more about it at Hoard House, a new project by Columbia University journalism students.
