Is your heart open?

The Editrix

When we're sick all the time, it's easy to fall into the trap of being angry. Angry at the world, at our doctors, our spouses or friends, the bus driver…anyone who doesn't understand. But if we open our hearts we can make connections that nourish us and help us feel better. Sharon Salzberg has a terrific short meditation to help open your heart.

New today at ChronicBabe.com: Tons of fibromyalgia resources

Fibro vid

Editrix Jenni mentioned it in her recent personal note, but here's the full list of fibromyalgia resources created at HealthyWomen, including three short, educational and fun videos she wrote and stars in *blush*. She's honored to work with such a revered organization, and hopes you'll spread the word. (Even non-fibro folks can get a lot from these resources!)

What's on our plate?

Compassion. As we go through our days, we find ourselves more and more frustrated with the state of the world. But shutting down-or blocking our true feelings with anger-doesn't help. So we're practicing compassion in every possible encounter, starting with our mail carrier, the embattled city hall clerk, the overworked and underappreciated nurses at our allergy clinic…just saying little things to help them feel appreciated. Try it-it feels great!

Did you know?

FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered) is an incredible organization helping women determine their hereditary risk of breast and ovarian cancers so they can make healthy choices for the future. They're guiding one of Editrix Jenni's friends through a life-changing surgery, so we're especially in love with them this week. Please consider making a donation.

What we're up to lately...

Making lists… thanking wonderful friends who keep us afloat during hard times… trying out some yummy-smelling new moisturizers from Aveeno and Neutrogena… hitting the gym every single day, darnit… playing with our friends' kids, who are filled with pure joy and goodness… meditating… watching Project Runway… journaling… listening to tons of music… trying to be good citizens… resting whenever possible… enjoying all the recent good press (yay!)… and trying to find peace, even when it's a struggle. Thank you, dear readers, for coming along on this ride. XO

Fab five: sites we love right now

Crafting with The Sick Chick
Juliann blogs about her health and her crafts, which are woven together like a tapestry. Can you relate? We think so. Check out her blog.

Sock Dreams
We're a little obsessed, because it's tights season here in Chicago, and almost time to bust out the wool socks. This site's got it all, super cute and reasonably priced!

The Happiness Project
It's simple: Gretchen Rubin is about to publish a book about her year pursuing everyday happiness. We can't wait to read the book, but this blog suffices for now.

TedMed Speakers
The 2009 TedMed speakers' presentations aren't posted yet, but previous talks are, and it's a gold mine of health information and entertainment. Spend 18 minutes a day and you'll learn a TON.

The Invisible Disabilities Advocate
The IDA has great resources for helping people learn about invisible illness, especially naysayers who just refuse to get it. You're not alone! Check out their many awesome tools and become a Facebook fan.

TAKE ACTION!

Cinch is a new tool you can use to make quick videos or audio clips and post them to the web (including Twitter and Facebook) from your phone. Tell your story!

The Forum just keeps growing and growing…it's awesome! There are so many women there now, with tons of cool groups to join. Spend a few minutes or a few hours; there's lots to love.

It Starts With Us. Nate St. Pierre has created the ultimate experiment in compassion and unconditional love. Check it out, join the A Team, and let us know what you think.
