Whoa! We missed a week in there. Why?
Because I was *FREAKING OUT.* I'm a regular chick just like y'all, and when confronted with unexpected change, I can also get scared. I found out I had to move to a new apartment. The hunt for a new place was frustrating and arduous; the idea of moving to a new neighborhood was intimidating; the planning around transportation and controlling my environment was wrought with catastrophizing. In short, I got overwhelmed. But I made it happen: The new apartment will be amazeballs! More to come on that. So this issue: All about getting over fears! New today at ChronicBabe.com:

Did you know? The physical effects of fear can really wreak havoc on your body. WebMD looks at some of the physiological results of excessive worry. The good news: There are lots of coping strategies for conquering fear. I like Tim Ferriss's attitude a lot. What we're up to lately...Packing...sorting...organizing...purging...letting some things fall through the cracks, because I just can't get it all done...asking for help...being urged to ask for help more often by people who really love me (I'm trying here, I really am!)...enjoying the occasional cocktail...reminiscing about my recent trip to NYC...getting ready to live lakeside...breathing deeply...speaking freely...eating well (and losing weight, 18 lbs and counting!)...and as always, feeling extra-thankful for all my fellow ChronicBabes. This is an interesting idea, and I've seen some great chronic illness and disability sites that take this same approach. Pema Chodron's timeless book talks about how to face fear. How be a warrior in spite of it! Every time I falter, I come back to this short, simple book and I feel stronger. Facing your fears: Patients for a Moment ChronicPal Serena hosted this blog carnival a few months ago, but I think the sentiments and ideas remain applicable today. Check out what women just like you are doing to conquer fear. Because I am a nerd, and I have a nerdy boyfriend, we talked about this quote from Dune this weekend. It really is true, ladies. Fear stops you from succeeding, enjoying, living. Music soothes the fearful soul The Experience Project lets you search for songs by topic. Here are nearly 70 songs to inspire you in moments of fear. I'm all about the playlists, so check these out and consider making your own! |
